DT Max T1

  1. Electronic signatures - Temporary measures

Recently the Canada Revenue Agency announced temporary measures immediately enabling electronic signatures for the T183. Revenu Québec implemented similar measures for the TP-1000. For instructions on how to take advantage of these changes in DT Max, please consult the Electronically signing the T183 and TP-1000 in DT Max page in our knowledge base.

  2. Version highlights

    1. First five digits of the SIN hidden on the federal T183 and Quebec TP-1000.TE forms

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the CRA announced that, from March 18, 2020, to August 31, 2020, in order to meet the changing expectations of taxpayers and efilers during this difficult time and to reduce the administrative burden, it will recognize form T183, Information Return for Electronic Filing of an Individual's Income Tax and Benefit Return, which contains an electronic signature as having satisfied the signing requirements of the Income Tax Act as a temporary administrative measure.

Following their announcement, the CRA has authorized tax software to hide the first five digits of the SIN on the T183 form for security and confidentiality reasons, as more and more preparers will send the T183 form electronically to their clients for signature.

Revenu Québec also confirmed that it allows tax software to hide up to the first 5 digits of the SIN for the TP-1000.TE form. However, in these circumstances, it would be important for the individual's information (NAME and FIRST NAME) to be perfectly legible for the form to be accepted at RQ (if they request it).

You will therefore notice that the first five digits of the NAS on the T183 and TP-1000.TE forms are now hidden.

      Notes:

      • Hiding part of the SIN is only allowed on forms T183 and TP-1000.TE.

      • We are not allowed to hide the SIN on authorization forms nor on any other form.

If Client Centre access has been granted to a client, this feature lets a tax preparer take advantage of the CRA's recent announcement to temporarily allow electronic signatures on the T183 - and RQ's similar announcement concerning the TP-1000.TE - by providing a convenient electronic means to get those documents to the client for electronic signing.
